Program Overview

The Dietetic Internship (DI) is part of a long history of Dietetics education at Brigham Young University which started in the late 1920's. The BYU DI provides dietetics education and training to six interns at the graduate level. The Internship is a 10-month, non-degree program which begins in the Fall Semester. Through the DI, interns meet the Competencies/Learning Outcomes established by the American Dietetic Association for entry-level dietitians. Successful completion of the internship will qualify interns to receive a Verification Statement and to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians. Interns for the DI will be selected from applicants who are (or soon will be) BYU dietetic graduates.

The BYU Internship has a program concentration in Administration and Leadership.  It includes supervised practice experiences in clinical and community nutrition and in foodservice management.  A variety of short rotations provide additional experience in settings of the intern’s choice.  Approximate length of time in rotations is:  Clinical , 12 weeks; Community, 6 weeks; Management, 11 weeks; Administration and Leadership, 3 weeks; Short Rotations/Option, 4 weeks.  Practice experiences take place in Provo, Salt Lake City, and Ogden.
